Ashley + Luke are getting married on NYE next year near downtown Wilmington, but they decided to do their engagement session on the boardwalk in Carolina Beach for the most special reason.

Ashley grew up going to see her grandma at the beach every summer so every spot we visited for these photos was a sentimental one. We graced two amazing establishments along the way— Britt's Donuts and Fat Pelican before doing an outfit change and golf-carting over to the beach for a few sunset snuggles. As you may or may not know, Britt's and Fat Pelicans are each famous for different reasons.

Britt’s first opened in 1939 and is known for their famous homemade glazed donuts and frequently makes national top 10 doughnut shop lists. It is literally the only thing they sell and the shop hasn't changed one bit throughout all the years. Talk about an old classic. Ashley + Luke even shared a donut with me from their little white lunch bag of treats and I felt my soul smile. That little round blob of sugar was heavenly. I had not tried one yet before this session but I can't wait to bring our daughter to the boardwalk one day for some people watching and donuts!

Fat Pelican has been voted the # 1 dive bar in NC and is the top 25 in the nation but the name has gotten even more familiar for it's recent appearance on Amazon Prime's 2022 original show The Summer I Turned Pretty. Nothing like stardom to get you excited to see these hallowed halls so we trekked on inside and even took some photos in the beer cave! (Check it out below) I adored how Ashley + Luke embraced the public spectacle of these photos because it was a crazy busy Summer evening, but they were too busy being crazy in love and didn't care. MY kinda humans.

So it goes without saying, it was an epic adventure with Ashley and Luke and I told them they looked like celebrities because of their confidence and unwavering smiles. We can't wait to bring in 2024 with you two!
